May Board BriefsMay 18, 2009, 7:00PMMay Board BriefsTom Bean Independent School District The Board of Trustees of the Tom Bean Independent School District held the regular monthly board meeting on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 7:00PM. President, Joe Jaska called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and Kim Jones led the invocation. Patricia Williams, Notary Public, swore in the new board members, David Harrison and Jimmy Jones. There was an election of the new officers for 2009-2010. Joe Jaska, President; David Harrison, Vice-President; and Brian Trentman, Secretary. The minutes of May 12, 2009 along with the minutes from April 20, 2009 were approved. The Financial Reports were approved as presented. The Tom Bean ISD Board of Trustees recognized Kim Jones for her outstanding service as a nine year board member. Mrs. Jones was presented with a plaque for dedication and commitment to the students of TBISD. Kyle Bono, son of Jim and Anne Bono, received recognition for his dedication and loyalty by representing Tom Bean High School in the State Golf Tournament. Student of the Month recognition and plaques were presented to the recipients from each campus. Teachers selected the candidates based on their attitude, behavior, and character. The recipients included: Kyler Davis (EL); Nathan Shipman (MS); and Lior Habib (HS). A budget workshop will be held by the Board of Trustees on June 8, 2009 at 7:00 PM. The regularly scheduled board meeting for June has been moved to June 11, 2009 beginning at approximately 7:00 PM. The board meeting will follow a Public Hearing on the Proposed Tax Rate and Budget for 2009-2010 held that same evening beginning at 6:00 PM. The board approved the purchase of a new 2010 International 72-passenger school bus and a 2010 Chevrolet 1500 Suburban for the 2009-2010 school year. In addition, the board approved the Policy Update 85. The Texas Star Bank’s depository contract was extended another year as well as the Dogs against Drugs contract. Two teachers were hired last night. Stephanie Minzenmayer, new MS Math teacher was given a one year probationary contract, and Bob Yadon, Jr., the High School Assistant Coach and Math teacher was given a one year dual probationary contract. The amendment to the Transportation stipend was approved to pay all bus route drivers $25.00 in the morning and $25.00 in the afternoon. Mrs. Garrison gave a Superintendent’s report which announced the Summer school hours, Summer Office hours, the possibility of purchasing a new agriculture trailer, and the new duty sick leave procedures. Mr. Terry Poindexter will be working at the Middle School next year as the new Computer Lab Aide along with the hiring of Jerry Sanders as a part-time assistant coach.
