March Board BriefsMarch 22, 2010 7:00PMMarch Board BriefsTom Bean Independent School District The Board of Trustees of the Tom Bean Independent School District held the regular monthly board meeting on Monday, March 22, 2010. President, Joe Jaska called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and Brian Trentman led the invocation. The minutes of February 15, 2010 along with the Financial Reports were approved as presented. Student of the Month recognition and plaques were presented to the recipients from each campus. Teachers selected the candidates based on their attitude, behavior, and character. The recipients included: Cheyann Lifsey (Elem); Bridgette Preece (MS); Maci Chapman (HS). Each of the campus principals gave a report with the total enrollment, attendance, discipline, number of walk-through evaluations, number of teacher absences, newsletters, and current events for March and April. John Orozco, Curriculum Director, gave is report which included the Safe and Drug Free School Survey, Textbook meetings, purchases of Tile I, Part A - ARRA money, professional development, and vertical alignment. Cheryl Jones, Technology, presented the Board with the Tom Bean ISD Technology Plan for 2010-2013. The total technology expenditure per pupil stands at $1,027.76. Currently, our computer/student ratio consists of 3 student(s) per computer. The Board approved the policy changes in Update 87 with the exception of CH(Local). In addition, they accepted the resignations for the 2010-2011 school year of Steve Westmoreland, Steven Boldish, and Sheree Taylor. The Board approved the sale of two District school buses. A 1993 Carpenter Type A- 16 passenger, and a 1987 Carpenter Type A – 16 passenger bus will be auctioned. All certified teachers in the Tom Bean ISD were employed for the 2010-2011 school year. Kathy Garrison, TBISD Superintendent, gave an update to the Board of Trustees concerning the resignation of an at-will employee, the dismissal of an at-will employee, Ag building update, and the possibility of a central office building. Mr. Joe Jaska, Board President, gave the board members an update on their continuing education to meet State requirements. The next Board meeting will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 7:00 P.M.
